Summer Compass students dive into design engineering & upcycle challenges at Lesley STEAM

Lesley STEAM Learning Lab hosted just over 100 Lesley Summer Compass students this past week in our makerspace. True to their 2018 theme “Going Green,” campers engaged in a variety of design engineering challenges with a focus on upcycling materials, insects, plants, and alternative modes of transportation.

Lesley STEAM welcomes Saudi Arabian Educators

Thirty-two Saudi Arabian college deans visited Lesley last week as part of a 10-day exploratory tour to learn about teacher preparation and development in the United States. Lesley STEAM joins in on 2018 Scratch Day @ MIT

Lesley STEAM’s Sue Cusack will join the Scratch Day @ MIT volunteer squad for an action-packed day of hands-on Scratch demonstrations, panels, tinkering, social meet-ups, and more. The Lifelong Kindergarten Group, organizers of the day, will host the 2018 Scratch Day @ MIT onsite event at their home in the MIT Media Lab.  Scratch Day is a worldwide network of events that encourages any organization or individual to host their own workshop or gathering in celebration of Scratch programming. Early education group visits from Nanjing, China

A group works together to develop a solution to the “Three Little Pigs” Novel Engineering challenge.

Over twenty early educators and directors from Nanjing, China, joined us in the Lesley makerspace for a daylong workshop on making in early childhood. Hosted by Lesley Associate Professor and Director of the Early Childhood Education Program, Yvonne Yihsing Liu-Constant, the group engaged in hands-on making projects throughout the day.
